BEHOLD! THE COMMUNICATIVE POWER OF JEWELRY

The communicative ability of jewelry continues to fascinate me! My vision for this sterling silver statement necklace has been unfolding over the past year, and I’m stunned to see it finally come to life. I certainly channeled my inner Cleopatra while designing it.

🌹

Initially, the “Atomic Rose” was a single hand-fabricated pendant. Lost wax casting has enabled me to create this striking collar of ‘roses’ to arm and empower the wearer with sculptural originality.

🌹

I hoped to create a piece that would embody the strength in femininity, the emotive power of self-expression, and celebrate the human form and our relentless propensity to adorn it. The Atomic Rose presents the most storied flower in history in a bold, geometric vein, and showcases my obsession with the Art Deco style. The necklace itself turned out as I had envisioned, but I had no idea how powerful it would become once worn. Against a canvas of bare skin or dark hair, this piece speaks volumes without making a sound.

✨ PEARLS THAT PACK A PUNCH ✨

BLACK DIAMOND-CUT CHAIN PLAYS WELL WITH WHITE CULTURED PEARLS

As we transition into fall, explore our latest collection, offering an edgy twist on this organic jewelry staple. Textured, sparkling chains entangle oversized baroques and black Tahitians, challenging our very notion of the classic and understated beauty that is...THE PEARL.

Pearls — an oldie but a goodie with a rich history in the jewelry world. We wouldn't dare reinvent the wheel, but we WOULD roll that wheel into the 21st century, adding metallic textures and jumbo chain links for a little new age edge.

(Think Sandy Olsson before AND after her Danny Zuko inspired transformation.)

We have tons of ideas to help reintroduce that long-lost strand you probably already have! Layer it with a gold chain or two, or add a chunky pendant to modernize the look. What's old can be new again, and as the adage goes, "pearls are always appropriate".

Stay tuned for more styling tips on NEW WAYS TO WEAR those iconic gems!

AN HOMAGE TO TIME

Meticulously crafted over a period of 40 hours, the “Chronos” is an homage to TIME, referencing both its unwavering passage and cyclical transition. (Thus, the circles.)
🧡
I’ve always been fascinated with age and time, the stages of our lives, and what each of them holds. When is the “prime” of a human’s life? 🤔 The body’s prime is in its youth. Alternately, the mind enters its prime as it becomes well-seasoned with life lessons.
🧡
But I’m a “present-minded” individual. I’d like to think every day is PRIMETIME!
🧡
The Chronos necklace is constructed in sterling silver with articulating ball studs and bezel set tourmalines. It wears as a choker. One-of-a-kind… just like the lifetime of its wearer.

AN EPIC JOURNEY

The Palea Earrings

Get lost in the glamorous history of the Palea earrings. Consider the individual journeys of each component and how they managed to make their way to the surface to become a “modern artifact”.  These humble organic treasures are now encapsulated in hand-fabricated sterling silver bezel and prong settings to be enjoyed and showcased aboveground forever.  View the listing in COLLECTION for more photos!

Gilded Magnetite Jade (California) —

A high quality black jade containing magnetite ‘chrysanthemum bursts’ which have been electroplated with yummy 24 karat gold. The gold adheres to to the metallic inclusions and produces an organic brushstroke effect. Since these cabochons are lovely from every angle, I chose to keep the settings open in the back.

Pyritized Ammonite Negatives (Germany) —

Formed by the natural impressions of ammonites and discovered in a German pyrite bed, these particular specimens were cut by Bill Herar of Rare Earth Mining Co. and mimic miniature bronze sculptures. The subtle shine of the pyrite spirals can certainly mesmorize, and I can’t help but think of the little creatures that created them eons ago! (Forgive my dry and cracked California metalsmithing hands!)

Fossilized Palm Root (Indonesia) —

After being buried under hundreds of yards of sediment, the organic matter of these palm tree roots were replaced by the silica in underground waters, preserving every minute detail of the woodsy specimen. Over the course of time, the wood was replaced by microcrystalline quartz — turning the roots to stone! Think about the site where this palm tree grew. How old was the tree before its roots fossilized and were dug up? Did anyone ever sit beneath this tree or did the process occur before humankind existed? The romance lies in the wonderment.

ARTIST UNDERGROUND

One of my biggest struggles as a designer is getting into a comfortable groove of production. I’m filled with grand ideas but dragging my ass out to my often cold and spider-filled studio to actually do the MAKING part can be daunting. Of course, one day, I’ll have a beautiful, clean, natural light-filled studio, (hopefully in New York overlooking the city, buzzing with life and filling me with utter inspiration). But until then, my dusty, dank garage studio will have to suffice. I am grateful to have it. So much space, and I don’t feel guilty when it looks like a bomb went off in it. But it’s hard to make myself go out there.

When I see photos of other jewelers at their benches I can tell so much about them. I love it. If someone came into my house, they would see every single thing in its place. Not a dust bunny or dirty dish in sight. Fresh flowers on the table, fluffy throws covering scratch marks from the cat on the couch, most personal items hidden away. A bit of an act perhaps. But no one goes into my studio. So, I’m not putting on any kind of show there. It is completely real and raw. Bits and pieces everywhere. Countless projects laid out, dust and shards of metal, tools piled on top of each other. Don’t get me wrong, there is still a semblance of order, (I’m an OCD sufferer), but there is no show here. Just the realest parts of me. The feeling of complete creative freedom keeps me coming back… to the spiders and all.

ONE OF THE GREATS

I'm happy to note that I've just stumbled upon the work of William Ehrlich, a jewelry designer who works in German Silver and gemstones, known for his statement and one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Germain Silver is actually an alloy and doesn't contain silver at all. His motive for using it struck a chord with me.

“I chose not to use gold or platinum because I wanted to downplay the metal aspect,” he says. “I would rather have the jewelry read like form and color than be about the perceived preciousness of the metal.”

MY CURRENT OBSESSION

I am constantly searching for inspiration and studying others' techniques. Every once in a while I will stumble across a designer who truly "wows" me and I can't help but wonder why I have never heard of them before. Am I living under a rock? I literally spend every spare moment researching designers and jewelry. Why are we so bombarded with the same old garbage when artists like Philip Sajet exist? I am so emotional over his work.

MISSING MY BESTIES

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my awesome new business cards in the mail. They were designed by my very talented bestie and graphic designer by profession, Danielle. She's back in Philly but will be visiting wine country in the spring! Watch for a fabulous AMY C PYLES jewelry photo shoot when she finally gets here! (My friends model for free but I pay them in jewelry.)

Danielle and Jenny: These girls have been tirelessly supportive of my design endeavors. This bridesmaid picture shows them modeling some custom pieces I made for my wedding. Get it girrrrrrlz!
